A Family Vacation Memory Book- A terrific travel crafting project for the entire family

If you are looking for a fancy way to create a scrapbook this is not it.  This is a simple method I suggest to help you get the most out of your vacation memories.

To create a remarkable vacation memory scrapbook all you need to bring along on your trip is plenty of blank paper, pencils, crayons and several large zip lock bags for safe keeping treasures.

Constructing a family vacation memory book adds fun to your trip as well as produces memories to pass along from generation to generation.  Select a time each day when everyone will devote a few minutes to creating the memory scrapbook.  It may be at the end of day as things quiet down, it may be before nap time or even at breakfast time.  The important thing is to ask each family member that is old enough, to write a brief note about what they enjoyed for the day.  Spelling and grammar don’t count and mom and dad need to participate too.  Younger children may just want to draw a picture of their day with a pencil or crayon.  I like to date the back of each entry for reference later on.  Collect all the papers and put them in a large zip lock bag.

Be sure to keep any ticket or ticket stubs from your trip and toss them in your zip lock too.  These tickets can be from a sporting event, a movie or even a bus ride.

I also like to collect post cards from the resorts we stay at, so whatever you like to add to your bag to remember your trip is great.  Matchbooks, printed napkins, I even kept a small plastic bag that said NEW YORK on it.  This is for YOU and YOUR family and there is NO wrong way to make a family vacation scrapbook.  Make sure to have a designated place in your packing to store the bags with the notes.  You do not want to misplace anyone’s project.

When you return home from your vacation things are usually too hectic to thing about making a scrapbook and this is the great part about the zip lock system. The memories are saved from each day and when you are back in your normal routine you will have everything you need to make a great book.

After you have your film developed or your digital pictures selected to print you can compile the notes from each family member with the pictures and the stubs you brought home.  You may want to make a trip to the copy store and make a few copies of special stories.  The finished books make great gifts for grandparents or aunts and uncles.

I suggest using a photo album to arrange your pictures with your notes.

Or if you really like the personal touch, you may use construction paper to create each individual page.  Add some stickers or extra notes in the margin too.  Be sure to use only safe adhesive materials so as not to destroy anyone’s writing or art work.  Consult with a professional scrapbook designer to get correct information.

Be sure to date the book and have each family member sign it.  ENJOY your memories!
